COMMUNITY VOICES HEARD STATEMENT ON THE GUILTY VERDICTS OF DEREK CHAUVIN

While this verdict serves as the condemnation of the cruel murder of George Floyd, there is no victory in the justice system doing what it *should* do for something that *should not* have happened. This is just a matter of what kinds of tears we get to cry, and none of them are tears of joy. The circumstances -- from the event to the outcome -- are yet another product of systematic and sustained racism and injustices towards Black and Brown people. We need to reimagine public safety now, more than ever.
